Description

E3D are very proud to be the only officially approved manufacturer of aftermarket Bambu Lab HotEnds! These ObXidian® High Flow HotEnds were developed in collaboration with Bambu Lab, bringing you one of the most compact, lightweight and, more importantly, performant HotEnds to date.

High Flow

There's no denying that the Bambu Lab X1 and P1 series printers are built for speed. However, the motion system, as remarkable as it is, has headroom to be even better. That's where E3D High Flow technology comes in. Using our internal nozzle modification, we've managed to increase the volumetric flow rate of the HotEnd by 60%! That means you can expect more reliable and consistent extrusion at the same speeds or bump up the volumetric flow rate limit in the slicer to utilise the motion systems' capabilities fully.

Smooth and Hard

We've applied our E3DLC™ coating to the nozzle and heater parts, adding even more abrasive resistance for all your fibre-filled fun and a non-stick protective layer to prevent plastic build-up on the Nozzle.

Improved Layer Adhesion

High speed printing often sacrifices visual and functional aspects in favour of speed but these Hotends maintain interlayer adhesion strength even at higher speeds; resulting in the correct filament finish and strong parts for functional applications. Don't just take our word for it though - check out this video from Printing Perspective where he puts it to the test!

No Compromise

All of these new additions come in the same form factor as your stock Bambu; simply reuse your temperature sensor and heater pads, and it drops in place with no adjustment to the mount or part cooling required. Complete the upgrade in under 5 mins with our installation video guide.

Compatibility

The E3D High Flow HotEnd is compatible with the X1, X1 Carbon, P1S, and P1P.

Please note:

  • This product only contains the metal only parts. If you'd like to purchase a fully assembled version then you can do so here.
  • ObXidian® coated nozzles are exceptionally wear resistant compared to other products on the market and significantly outperform other hardened nozzles. Improvements in ‘exotic’ engineering filaments mean that some new materials which include aggressive fillers, including but not limited to Polymaker’s PolyMide range (PA612-CF, PA6-CF, PA6-GF and PA12-CF), can cause significant wear on even ObXidian nozzles. E3D is actively developing even more specialist solutions for these materials. In the meantime please be aware that even the rainbows and unicorns in your ObXidian nozzle are not everlasting under extreme material conditions.
  • Some filled materials contain particles that are close to, if not larger than, some of the smaller industry standard nozzle sizes, including up to 0.4mm. Attempting to print such materials through these nozzle sizes significantly increases the risk a jam. Please check your filament manufacturer’s datasheet for recommended minimum nozzle orifice diameter to ensure that the nozzle/hotend you choose is suitable for your use case.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the maximum printing temperature?
300 °C

Is this HotEnd compatible with the Bambu X1E?
Although the HotEnd is compatible, you will be temperature limited to 300 °C.

Can you cold pull the E3D ObX HF Bambu HotEnd?
Yes, you can! The ObXidian coating is designed to withstand the force of a cold pull, however it can be a little bit challenging compared to a typical nozzle due to the internal construction.

Are there any material limitations?

Any filament you can print with our Revo and V6 ObXidian nozzles can be used with this upgrade. Typically aimed at fibre filled filaments, glow in the dark and glitter filled filaments, these nozzles should provide you a reliable choice. Short periods of metal and ceramic filled filaments can be used but may still wear over prolonged use.

Do I need to PID tune when I upgrade to the E3D ObX HF Bambu HotEnd?
No, you don’t need to!

Is this compatible with E3D Revo Nozzles?
These Hotends are designed to maintain the exact same form factor as the stock Bambu nozzles and are therefore not compatible with the Revo range of nozzles. If this is something you are interested in we recommend you have a look at the Revo Panda, which is a Revo compatible HotEnd by Biqu.

Will this product reduce my print time?
Print time reduction is affected by many variables, including the part you are wanting to print. In most cases using our premade slicer profiles you should see a decrease in print time – however if you are printing very small, detailed models with little to no infill you may not see a dramatic decrease in print time as we prioritise maintaining high visual quality in the outside perimeters.

DiamondBack Fan Failure

Not too happy! Fan faulty - sent a ticket for it....no response going on over a week since I made the original request!. As well I am having parts come loose during the print. Did not have problems before with original hotels!

Hi Claire,

We're sorry about the delay in getting back to your support ticket. I can confirm that we have sent you a replacement fan and it should be with you any day.

Again, apolgies for the inconvinience and downtime this has caused.

worse than stock nozzle

Wore out after 1Kg of Polymaker PLA Luminous orange. My first spool printed perfectly but i quickly started having extrusion issues on the next one. Did cold pulls till it was clean but nozzle has never printed as well since. Extrusion issues on gold picture. Green benchy left is Bambu Lab nozzle and the right is e3d, you can see bulges in layers and e3d is noticeably worse. I contacted support and they asked me to print their own benchmark buggy and they blamed my parts fan. I told them my parts fan is running fine and asked for some clarification but have been ignored since. Maybe I just got a bad nozzle but I don't know. They had said overhangs were a giveaway so i did an overhang test. The bambu lab nozzle did slightly better, both nozzles didn't have issues till 60 degree hang but issues were about 5% less on bambu nozzle. I think that overhang test was within average range of P1S ability. However I would expect the E3D Obxidian to at least match performance, not be worse. It must've been defective because it doesn't make sense for it to wear out so fast. Id rather do an exchange than a return but customer service stopped responding to me after 2 emails.

Hi Robert,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your feedback regarding our response times. We aim to reply within 48 hours; however, as E3D is closed over the weekends, we apologise for the delay in getting back to you.

Regarding your Bambu Hotend, if you've been printing primarily with PLA, it’s unlikely that wear is the issue. We recommend purging filament in open air to ensure there is no blockage. Additionally, for the E3DBuggy’s overhangs, it appears the drooping could be improved by fine-tuning the slicer settings rather than indicating a hardware fault.

Our Tech Support team has sent you some suggestions via email this morning. Please give those a try, and let us know if any issues persist—we’re here to help.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding.

Best regards,
Georgia

Works great, but not for PLA Silk

I got the 0.6mm nozzle from a local reseller in the US. Upon testing it out, I believe the nozzle does a great job. It keeps up with high volumetric flow, and the parts have noticeably better layer adhesion.

However, this nozzle doesn't seem great for PLA Silk filaments, and I don't know why that is. All the prints that I try end up with ghosting, and what seems to be ringing, but diagonally. Normally ringing is vertical, so this looks to me like the coating on the nozzle tip is actually somewhat sticky to PLA Silk, and it drags over it.

I already spent about 10 hours trying to dial it down, and the only thing that helps hide the issue a little is in OrcaSlicer enabling "Down slow down for overhangs". The issue is not gone, but reduced. If I swap out to a stock 0.6mm nozzle then I don't see this issue. And this is only with PLA Silk.

Besides that, everything works great. Bed Leveling is fine, it just works out of the box with every other filament that I tried except for PLA Silk.

Now, It is a pretty steep price to pay, was it worth it? The speed gains are not really noticeable. It saves maybe about 5% total time. However, the stronger layer adhesion is definitely worth it for my use cases.

High flow, but super sticky

The higher flow compared to Bambu stock nozzle is here, but how dare you sell this nozzle as non-sticky ?
Filament stick a lot on it, it ruins all my multicolor prints.
The nozzle also lets filament flow when changing colors, leaving unwanted bits on prints.
At the end the print quality is not here, at least in multicolor.
Just usable for one color print requiring higher flow.
personally I'm not going to use it anymore, it will sleep in a drawer from now on.

Hi there,

Thank you for getting in touch with us. From what you've described it sounds like you're experiencing slight over extrusion that is compounding over time. Similarly, the oozing that you are describing suggests that both of these factors are temperature related. We'd initially suggest that you try printing at a lower temperature, there are excellent models on file sharing websites that allow you to fine tune your specific filament settings - https://makerworld.com/en/search/models?keyword=temperature%20calibration.

Whilst ObXidian does have non-stick properties, particuarly sticky materials such as PetG can still stick to some degree, however this amount will be significantly less than without a non-stick coating. We hope that our suggestions get you back up and running with your ObX HF upgrade, if not please do open a support ticket with us and we will be happy to assist you further.

Best wishes,
Georgia

Switched to this hotend because I print PLA CF

Switched to this hotend because I print PLA CF for my product. I've had perfect prints every time.

The only failures I've had were due to prototype render errors.

Definitely worth the money. If I were using a standard nozzle, I probably would have gone through 2 or 3 by now.

All prints fail, don't buy it

Since changing to the ObXdian Hotend on my Bambu X1 Carbon, all prints fail. Don't buy, just use the far cheaper stock hotends from Bambu.

While everything hardware related is excellent

While everything hardware related is excellent, the fact that Bambu doesn't have a dedicated software profile for this extruder, when they do have one forE3D's high flow one, is a paint point. Hopefully that comes soon, 5 stars as soon as that is available.

Hey Joaquín,

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your review, we're delighted to hear that you're having a great time with the product. I am very happy to say that Bambu Lab have now integrated the High Flow profiles in to Bambu Studio so do check them out!

Best wishes,
Georgia

Clogged and ruined after less than a spool

All I got through was a few calibration prints on my P1S with PLA, ABS, and TPU, and this nozzle clogged on the TPU using the recommended settings. I followed all E3D's troubleshooting recommendations, including about 40 attempts at cold pulls using all types of filament, and nothing worked. E3D offered me a 20% discount on my next purchase...sure, like I'm going to spend another $100 on a nozzle that clogs with basic filament using recommended settings. They don't stand behind their product.
